It's almost the new year and we want to thank all our fencers, coaches, and families who have made 2021 another exciting, successful year for Boston Fencing Club! Despite continued uncertainties due to COVID-19 and cancelled tournaments at the beginning of the year, our fencers demonstrated hard work pays off! Let's look back on 10 of our favorite memories
1. Hannah Lee finished 5th in Y14 women's sabre, her first of 3 NAC podium finishes in one year!
2. Many of our youngest fencers had the opportunity to compete for the very first time this year! We can't wait to see what they do next!
3. The BFC Spring RJCC was a big success, with many medalists over the 4 days!
4. BFC fencers won 5 medals at the Summer Nationals/July Challenge in Philadelphia, PA, including a Silver medal in Div IA Women's Sabre by Nina Sayles
5. At the postponed Junior Olympics in August, Samir Travers was the runner up in junior men's sabre!
6. We had a blast cheering on USA Fencing in the Tokyo Summer Olympics! We're proud of everybody who competed for Team USA!
7. We've missed all of our wonderful members who were off to college in September, but it was great to see those in New England still at the annual NEIFC Big One, where Joshua Lo placed 6th in men's sabre representing Northeastern University!
8. Leah Blum and Samir Travers both fenced at their first international tournaments this year! We can't wait to see what the future holds for these two fencers! Leah finished in the top-16 in the Cadet World Cup in Sofia, Bulgaria.
9. Many of our fencers will be off to compete at the 2022 Junior Olympics in February after having qualified in 2021! Michael Howard qualified for Junior men's foil at the NEUSFA regional qualifier earlier this month.
10. BFC fencers capped the year off with a big medal haul at the December NAC, bringing home 3 bronze medals! The results from that NAC put 4 BFC fencers in the top 15 nationally in their respective age groups! Congrats to Leah, Maria, Tommy, and Hannah.
BONUS: Our young fencers enjoyed a very spooky Halloween party!
